Eddie Hughes served as Government Whip for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government during Boris Johnson’s post-pandemic “Build Back Better” push, the net-zero minister for MHCLG at COP26, and was the minister responsible for liaison with the Grenfell community in the lead-up to the fifth anniversary of the fire and a minister on the Building Safety Bill.
From his extensive experience, Eddie will be sharing insights about planning, Net Zero and Grenfell and lessons learned when getting things built.
Eddie started his professional life as a civil engineer. His journey through the construction and maintenance sector has included managing housing development and maintenance, chairing the board of a housing association, serving as Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing in Government, whicjh now finds him supporting the Church of England in its housing ambitions.
Alongside his role as Project Director at the Church Development Agency, Eddie serves on the board of Sovereign Network Group and the advisory board of The Housing Network, bringing together practical industry experience and an understanding of how government policy shapes the built environment.
