Guest Speakers:
Fraser Godfrey (Director - Howells)
Manbir Kaur (Executive Architect - BDP)
Fraser Godfrey from Howells will provide an overview of the masterplan, the story behind securing BBC as the anchor tenant and the vision for the Tea Factory. Manbir Kaur from BDP (Executive Architect) will talk about the delivery challenges of restoring a 100 year old factory and how these have been overcome.
Fraser is a Director at Howells and leads one of the practice’s four Birmingham studios. He served as Project Architect during the planning phase of the Tea Factory, working closely with developer Stoford and the BBC to shape the brief and develop the building’s concept design. Fraser is also actively involved in the Typhoo Wharf masterplan, a significant regeneration scheme in Digbeth centred on the Tea Factory. The masterplan will deliver a mixed-use neighbourhood comprising homes, workspace and leisure uses, strategically located close to HS2 and the canal network.
Manbir is a key member of BDP’s Birmingham Studio and an Architect with expertise in the refurbishment and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. She played a significant role in the delivery of the Tea Factory at RIBA Stages 3 and 4, working closely with developer Stoford to transform the former industrial building into a high-quality commercial space for the BBC, alongside a new leisure provision. The project represents one of Digbeth’s most prominent regeneration schemes.
Manbir is also Project Architect on Project Shelby (Multistory) and 7–8 Greenfield Crescent, leading the delivery of the complex refurbishment and Cat A office schemes within existing and heritage structures.
