Join us on Wednesday 16th September for an exclusive audience with Len Grant – award-winning sketcher, storyteller and photographer.
Starting as a freelance photographer in the early 90’s, Len has documented the regeneration of Manchester over the last 30 years, culminating in his new retrospective book, Regeneration Manchester, due for publication later this year.
FBE Manchester are delighted to be able to share Len’s story with you all, one that includes a range of iconic landmark projects that kickstarted the transformation of the city including the construction of Manchester Arena, The Bridgewater Hall, Imperial War Museum North and The Lowry.
At the turn of the millennium Len’s ability to convey the human stories behind the physical transformation of the city resulted in a number of written publications including Full Time at Maine Road, a book that followed the demolition of Manchester City’s old ground, and East, a series of large format magazines published on behalf of New East Manchester urban regeneration company.
More recently Len was commissioned to document the construction of the new Cooperative Headquarters, a new Manchester landmark and one of the most energy efficient commercial buildings in the UK..
A unique aspect of Len’s work is its diversity and scale. Whilst most of us will be familiar with landmark projects such as The Lowry and The Bridgewater Hall, Len has dedicated himself to tell the important human stories behind the disaffected, those left behind as the city grows and prospers.
Len will take us on a visual journey of Manchester’s transformation over the last 30 years, followed by an intimate conversation with Lucy Smith, FBE Committee Member and owner of Lucy Smith Photography. We will conclude the event with an opportunity for Lucy to field some of your questions to Len.
