On the morning of the first day of the Education Estates Conference please join us to kick off your day with an opportunity for networking and question time with our panel of Education Experts.

The art of designing schools lies not in just understanding what makes a functional classroom, but in how successful we are in creating a wide array of educational options for teachers and students within the school environment. A variety of spatial opportunities, indoors and outdoors, provides teachers the literal and figurative space to explore, experiment, and tailor lessons to the needs of the students and the curriculum.

Once leaving school today’s students want more from further and higher education. Participation in the academic world are no longer top priorities for students. Instead, they want to become the next Steve Jobs! Yet statistics tell us that education still matters. Student years are transformative and the way that we design for those years will have to change! Long gone are the days of massive lectures and desks neatly lined in rows. Students can get the world’s best lectures online so educational establishments have to offer more.

If there is a shift in how we teach; how does this affect the way we design and deliver buildings for the future? Our panel discuss how we are approaching this, taking into account cost - both capex and opex, technology – BIM & VR, changes in teaching culture, multi-use facilities, life expectancy of the building and much more!

Our panel includes:
  • Barney Harle - Head of Major Projects - Manchester City Council
  • Jason Challender – Director of Estates & Facilities - University of Salford
  • Alan Simpson – Director – 10 Architect
  • Adam Hickson – Associate Director – Mace
  • Alice Parker – Associate – Pozzoni
