Date:12th October 2018
Time:12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Northern Counties Club, 1 Hood Street Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6LH
Join FBE Newcastle for a networking lunch event and an opportunity to hear first-hand from Ahmed Allam, Director of Fire Engineering, at Cundall, who, in the wake of the devasting Grenfell fire, asks ‘ is fire safety engineering at a crossroad?’
Fire Safety Engineering has become a critical aspect of building construction and it could be defined as the application of scientific and engineering principles, rules and best expert judgement to protect people and property from the destructive effects of fire.
Fire precautions make up a large proportion of the costs on any construction project, both in relation to the capital cost of the fire protections as well as the loss of floor area due to stairs, vent shafts and other similar fire safety measures. Problems on site caused by incorrectly designed or specified fire precautions are also a major cause of costs and delays. Therefore, fire safety measures of buildings must satisfy the fire safety objectives specified by codes and standards, owners, designers, insurance bodies and approvals authorities.
The presentation will address the following topics:
- Fire safety strategy
- Prescriptive approach
- Performance-based approach
- Case studies
- Way forward
A light lunch of sandwiches, tea, coffee and orange juice will be provided.
