F Parkinson have a strong social value ethos and provide community benefits on every construction project completed to ensure they leave a legacy. Each year they choose a selected charity to support for 12 months and in 2019 they chose to support Butterwick House Children’s Hospice due to a close connection with the charity through the son of one of their employees, Site Supervisor, Mark McGurry who regularly attends the hospice.
The hospice provides care and support to children with life limiting illnesses up to 21 years of age.
Each year the company undertakes a Christmas initiative which involves all their staff located across the North of England. This year F Parkinson raised £2541.51 for the charity through a charity football tournament held at their recently completed scheme at Burnholme Sports Centre for City of York Council. The football tournament involved several supply chain partners who completed works at the sports centre, this included; SY Decorators, Shouksmiths Building Services Engineers, H F Brown and Son Ltd, J S Allison Ltd, ADS Scaffolding Ltd and Dean Construction and Groundworks Ltd.
The funds raised will cover one day’s specialist care at Butterwick House for babies, children, young adults and their families living with a life limiting illness throughout the region.
In addition to the funds raised for the charity at the football tournament, F Parkinson staff also bought an extra Christmas present to donate to the children attending the Butterwick House Hospice Christmas Party.
Debbie Jones, CEO of Butterwick Hospice Care, said: “Thank you for the incredible generosity and support from F Parkinson which enables us to continue working in our local community, adding life to days when adding days to life is no longer possible.”

About Butterwick House Hospice
Butterwick House offers a very warm welcome to babies, children, teenagers, young adults and their families. Most of the children and young people who come to Butterwick House need round the clock care - 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some children and young adults come for the day, many come for a short break either by themselves or with their family.
Butterwick House offers a bright and happy environment where the children and their families can make the most of every moment. We believe every moment counts and families need support so they can make the most of their time together. There are lots of fun things for children and young people to do here such as playing games, using specialist computers, enjoying arts and crafts and using our special hydrotherapy pool. Young people can just chill out, perhaps in the multi-sensory room or our sensory garden or for more excitement they can go on trips on our specially adapted bus.
Butterwick House supports the whole family and that includes everyone. Mums, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles are all welcome to come to the hospice if they need support or to see what fun the children are having when they come to stay. Butterwick House is a registered charity like all children's hospices, which relies on public support.
