National Golf Championships

  • National Golf Championships - Image 1

This years National Golf championships were held at Little Aston Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield.
Little Aston is one of the finest courses in the UK and was in fabulous condition. Luckily the weather remained mild with very little wind. The hospitality of the club was excellent and their culinary skills in the evening were enjoyed by all.
The competition saw 26 golfers compete in pairs, many of which were winners of their branch golf days. The course proved to be challenging for most players with 160 bunkers, some of them literally covering the width of the fairway. Very few players were able to avoid these hazards and some did enjoy an on-course bunker training not through choice but necessity.

The winning team with a combined score of 69 points was Mike Birchall of BEA and Jordan Taylor of Interface Contracts representing the Manchester branch and North West region.

2nd was John Roblin and Simon Berni with 66 points representing West Wales branch.

The prize for the best individual score went to Anthony Barnes of Laycock Williams who played the round of his life and scored 39 points off a handicap of 13.

2nd was Mike Birchall with 37 points and 3rd was Jeff Price of Cambria Branch with 35 points.

Nearest the in was won by Tony Healan of ATH Builders
Longest drive was won by Anthony Barnes of Laycock Williams
Nearest the pin in 2 was won by Steve Sewell of Interface Contracts

The venue and the course was highly praised by all who played and it therefore seems likely that we will return there in 2011.
