The second gathering in the fbe's new format 'Member/Client Lunch' took place on Tuesday 1st November at Jacks Brasserie, in the Harbourside at Bristol. Over 60 fbe members were given a very comprehensive talk by Andrew Goodenough, Head of Development at Bristol International Airport, about its development and expansion plans. Since acquiring the Easy Jet business in early 2000, passenger numbers at the airport have increased dramatically and the airport now handles 6 million passengers per annum, flying to 100 destinations across 29 countries including 76 scheduled routes. Part of the proposals for the expansion include new passenger walkways, larger aircraft stands, extensions to the West and East Terminal buildings, a new car parking/transport hub, administration buildings and a 250-bedroomed hotel.
The benefits to the economy of the South West include a forecast of 3,500 new jobs, an economic contribution of approximately £1.9-2.0bn, increased tourism creating an additional £1.1bn visitor spend, enhanced public transport and a truly impressive gateway to the South West.
The Airport proposes to commence its procurement process in early December 2011.
