The Great Western branch of the FBE held its annual AGM Dinner on March 22nd at the
Thistle Grand Hotel in Bristol. Louise Brown, the outgoing Chairman handed over 'The
Gong' to Richard Davis. Louise has presided over the Great Western branch during the
last year, organising and hosting a good number of successful events.

Richard is Director of Kier Construction for the Western and Wales regions and the
branch welcomes him as Chairman.

Around 330 guests packed the room representing a major proportion of the construction
sector and the Lord and Lady Mayoress were guests of honour. The event was
sponsored by Hoare Lea, Clarke Willmott, White Young Green, Alder king and Kier.

Robbie Glen the comedian and after dinner speaker was the guest speaker for the
evening and everybody enjoyed a witty repartee.

The raffle prizes were sponsored by Curtins Consulting/Services Design Solution, Kier,
Vinci Construction, ISG and Thistle.

During the evening prizes were presented to undergraduates of the University of the
West of England who took part in the 17th annual Dean's Conference of the Faculty of
Environment and Technology which featured the four best team presentations.

This year's teams presented on topics covering Sustainable Communities, Climate
Change and Low Carbon Development. The winning team used the format of a planning
meeting and public consultation on two very different proposals for the development of
UWE's Car Park 20, setting a high land value scenario by 'Money Makers
Developments' against a 'green' scenario by 'Green Keen Developers'.

The winning team was: James Creevy, Martina Ferrao, Andrew Hing, Henry Stoot, Alice
Wanless and Toby Yates.

The dinner raised around £2,900 for Special Needs Adventure Playground (SNAP) and
the Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal.
