While the great and good of the European property business gathered in the South of France this week at the MIPIM exhibition and conference, the property and construction community of Bristol were busy thumbing their noses – and holding their own 'non-MIPIM' event.
Rather than one of the expensive hotels along Cannes' seafront, the venue was WestOne in The Deanery, Bristol's 'greenest' office development. It was taken over on Thursday evening by the fbe and some 120 local agents and construction professionals.
The high point of the evening was the announcement by Jeremy Richards of King Sturge that all but one of the five floors of WestOne was now under offer. Agents in MIPIM might large it up and talk the talk, but business is definitely being done down in Bristol.
Guests (accompanied by live jazz) indulged on French cheeses and meats and refreshed their palates with French wines, but still valuable networking was being done. "Who needs to get an aching head and liver when you can do business on your own doorstep?"
