In 1946 a group of people from branches of the building and allied professionals held an inaugural meeting in Lancashire.
Their aim was to provide business interaction and development within the industry. Membership was based on expertise and technical qualification.
The newly-born Faculty of Building (fob) grew to be a national organisation, representing a very wide range of disciplines in the construction sector. Through social events and professional training, the fob enabled contacts to be made and strengthened.
As the construction industry developed and integrated with a wider range of industries and professionals the fob changed to incorporate members from the wider building environment; rebranding as the Forum for the Built Environment or fbe.
Today the fbe is a multi-discipline networking organisation which connects people from across the industry.
